About
I have made a living working small woods in Devon, in particular the Teign valley, for many years. Working as a cutter in both conifer and native broadleaf woodlands led me to working horses commercially for several years.
Since buying our own woodland some 10 yrs ago I have been able to focus more on the rediscovery and development of traditional woodland crafts and techniques which have fascinated me since childhood. We currently focus the majority of our attention on our own small woodland, where we sustainably produce woodland heritage crafts.
Here in Devon we have a strong regional identity. I am continuously looking to share, promote and raise the profile and value of small woodland derived products and skills to prove viability and enthuse and encourage new entrants to the industry. In order to safeguard our unique woodland culture it feels important to reclaim this knowledge through doing and sharing with the wider world.
My work has often featured in tv, short films and magazines, nationally and internationally. I have exhibited and demonstrated my craft at prominent events.
For me the formation of the DCSG is all about networking, promoting the Devon woodland identity and supporting the next generation.
