I manage a 25 acre woodland on Exmoor, which, with the help of friends, I am restoring as a productive coppice. Hazel makes up the majority of the existing woodland, and I am supplementing it with Oak, Birch, Sweet Chestnut and other species in my rotations. I am managing the woodland for the production of charcoal, tools, food and clothing – see my article ‘A Celebration of Our Woodland’.

I am also involved in setting up a not-for-profit agroforestry co-operative within West Somerset and Mid and North Devon, which will offer landworkers secure employment, free access to land and affordable accommodation.
